Hey gang,
Just a quick note to let you know that I’m pausing on publishing new content for a week or two — I have a ton of site-wide post reformatting I’ve been putting off that I desperately need to do for SEO and site health purposes, it’s going to take a huge amount of time (there’s, uh, more than seven years of pretty much constant content here), and alas, there is only one of me, so I cannot do both that and research/write new articles at the same time.
Don’t worry, though! It’s only temporary — again, hopefully no more than a week or two. I’m aiming to be back to our usual twice-weekly publishing schedule the week of March 22, but I’ll update this post in the event that I end up needing to push it back a little further.
Thanks for your understanding — this whole endeavor is a one-person show, and sometimes I just get spread a little too thin. Hope everyone is doing okay in the meantime — stay spooky!
How do you choose which games to post about on this site? There’s a few that I think would be very fitting to go on here, but they’re pretty unpopular in their original forms (not bad unpopular, just that they didn’t get many views on the websites/forums they were first published on). Despite their low number of reads, I think they’d be a perfect fit for the site AND they would definitely gain some popularity if posted about on here – a win for both you and the original authors! I love everything you do on here, but one thing I’m particularly curious about is how you find all your great games in the first place!
I’m always on the lookout for games to cover! I’m particularly interested in games that stem from existing folklore or old urban legends — things that have histories I can trace or tropes I can explore — and these days, I tend to stay away from games whose primary goals are harming other people; mostly, though, if it’s a good story and there’s something I can really dig into, then it’s something I’ll consider. If you have suggestions, feel free to let us know about them!
You should make a few smaller lists like, “Games you can play alone,” “Games that don’t require many supplies,” etc. Just a suggestion 🙂 I love your work
Thanks for the suggestion! We’re actually working on just that – for example, we recently published a piece rounding up ritual games that are meant to (allegedly) transport you to other worlds – so definitely be on the lookout for those in the future!
